What do you need to root the Zenfone Z5?

In order to root the Zenfone Z5 you will need the following:

  • The Zenfone Z5 you wish to root in your hand
  • Access to a PC

Step 1 – Download and install ADB and the USB drivers on to your PC

For your PC to recognise the device once connected to your PC you must first download and install ADB on to your PC and also download the USB drivers for your phone and install them on to your PC.

We show you how to do that here. And you can get the Zenfone USB drivers from here.

Step 2 – Download the root package for the Zenfone Z5

You will need to download a root package to root the device. You can get it from here.

Save the download to an easy to find location on your PC such as your desktop and extract it to its own folder.

Step 3 – Enable USB debugging on the Zenfone Z5

You must enable USB debugging on the Zenfone Z5 so that the phone can be recognised by ADB once connected to your PC.

To do that, follow these steps.

Go to Settings.

Click About.

Open Software information.

Tap Build number continuously until a pop-up hint informs you that you’ve entered the developer mode.

Return to Settings

Find and open Developer Options.

Select USB debugging and click OK

Step 4 – Root the Zenfone Z5

Now that you have installed ADB on your PC, installed the Zenfone USB drivers and enabled USB debugging on the device itself it is now time to root the device.

To do this, with USB debugging enabled on the device, connect the device to your PC.

Once it is recognised and the USB drivers have been installed for the device it should be recognised by the PC.

Now open the folder you made in step 2 which contains the root package and run the checkbeforeaction.bat file.

Follow the instructions that appear on-screen to make sure the device is correctly recognised by your PC.

Once done run the Root-Zenfone6-en.bat file to root the device. This may take some time and the device will restart several times.

Once rooting is complete, on the device itself, you should now see a new application, SuperSU which means that the device has been successfully rooted.
