Once you have downloaded it save it to an easy to access location such as your desktop and extract it to its own folder.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; line-height: 1.5; color: #aaaabe; font-size: 1.7em; font-weight: 300;\">Step 2 \u2013 Unlock the HTC One M8 bootloader<\/h2>\n<p style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">As with many Android phones you must unlock the bootloader first before rooting can take place. This is done as follows:<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">\n<ol>\n<li>On your PC run the toolkit you downloaded in step 1.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Download HTC Drivers <\/strong>and select <strong>Go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the drivers to install<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Register at HTCDev<\/strong> and follow the instructions to register an account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; line-height: 1.5; color: #aaaabe; font-size: 1.7em; font-weight: 300;\">Step 3 \u2013 Enable USB debugging on the HTC One M8<\/h2>\n<p style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">On the phone itself you now need to enable USB debugging.<\/p>\n<p style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">On the phone go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Developer Options<\/strong> and turn make sure <strong>USB Debugging<\/strong> is <strong>checked<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">To enable USB debugging go to <strong>Settings &gt; About &gt; Software Information<\/strong> and tap <strong>Build Number<\/strong> until developer mode is enabled.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; line-height: 1.5; color: #aaaabe; font-size: 1.7em; font-weight: 300;\">Step 4 \u2013 Continue unlocking the bootloader<\/h2>\n<p style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">Now that USB debugging is enabled connect the HTC One M8 to your PC and have the toolkit running and perform the following.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">\n<ol>\n<li>In the toolkit highlight <strong>Get Token ID<\/strong> and click <strong>Go.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The device will enter Fastboot mode and you can now close the command prompt window.<\/li>\n<li>In the second command prompt window that appears highlight everything from <strong>&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt; Identifier Token Start &gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/strong> to <strong>&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt; Identifier Token End &gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/strong> and save it in to Notepad to be used later.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight <strong>Submit Token ID <\/strong>and then tap <strong>Go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Login to the HTCDev site and click <strong>Unlock Bootloader.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>HTC One M8<\/strong> from the list and click <strong>Begin Unlock Bootloader.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Skip through the steps until you are asked to input the token ID.<\/li>\n<li>Paste the data from step 3 and click <strong>Submit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Save the <strong>Unlock_code <\/strong>bin file that is emailed to you to your desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight <strong>Unlock Bootloader <\/strong>and then select <strong>Go.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Unlock_code <\/strong>bin file from step 9.<\/li>\n<li>On the device use the volume rocker to select <strong>Yes <\/strong>and the power button to confirm<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the bootloader to be unlocked.<\/li>\n<li>When the phone reboots follow the rest of the setup instructions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; line-height: 1.5; color: #aaaabe; font-size: 1.7em; font-weight: 300;\">Step 5 \u2013 Root the HTC One M8<\/h2>\n<p style=\"width: 70%; margin: 1.3em auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; line-height: 1.5; color: #000; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 300;\">Now that the bootloader has been unlocked we can root the HTC One M8.
