Before performing any of these steps make sure you back up your Android device completely.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rooting is done entirely by you at your own risk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THIS PROCESS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON THE DEVICE SO PLEASE BACKUP THE DEVICE BEFORE PROCEEDING.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>What is needed to root the Google Nexus 6?<\/h2>\n<p>In order to root the Google Nexus 6 you will need the following.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Google Nexus 6 you want to root in your hand.<\/li>\n<li>A PC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Step 1 \u2013Download the Galaxy Nexus rooting toolkit<\/h2>\n<p>To root the phone you need to download the toolkit to your PC which you can get from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediafire.com\/download\/6uo2xw1oicxvt18\/NRT_v2.0.4.sfx.exe\">here<\/a>. Save it in an easy to find location and extract it to its own folder.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2 \u2013 Enable USB debugging on the Google Nexus 6<\/h2>\n<p>In order for your PC to recognise the Google Nexus 6 when you plug it in to perform rooting you must first enable USB debugging on the phone itself. This is done by doing the following.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>Tap the Settings option.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Tap the About Phone option.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Keep tapping the Build Number option (seven times) until it says you are a developer.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Tap the new Developer Options menu that appears.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Make sure that the Enable OEM Unlock and the USB Debugging options are checked.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Step 3 \u2013 Root the phone<\/h2>\n<p>Rooting the phone requires two steps. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone. To do both of these follow the steps here.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Connect the Google Nexus 6 to your PC and make sure it is recognised (tap <strong>OK<\/strong> on the Nexus 6 when the USB Debugging window appears on the device).<\/li>\n<li>Run the Nexus toolkit program you downloaded and extracted in step 2.<\/li>\n<li>Under the <strong>Unlock<\/strong> section click the <strong>Unlock <\/strong>button and follow the steps <strong>\u2013 THIS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON THE DEVICE!<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The phone will reboot. Using the volume buttons select the option to unlock the bootloader and wait for it to finish.<\/li>\n<li>Once the bootloader has been unlocked, using the Nexus toolkit, under the <strong>Unlock <\/strong>section select <strong>Root.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions and wait for it to finish. The phone will reboot once done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once the phone has rebooted look for the new SuperSU icon.
