How To Jailbreak iOS 8.1.1 Or 8.1.2 On Mac

January 8, 2015

Currently there is no dedicated Mac tool for jailbreaking an iOS device running either iOS 8.1.1 or iOS 8.1.2 but you can still use a Mac to jailbreak a compatible iOS device as long as you are willing to get a little technical and install Windows on to your Mac.

This article will show you how to easily set up a virtual machine using VMWare Fusion (30 day trial) and then use a 90 day trial of Windows 7 to install on to the virtual machine that you then use to jailbreak the iOS device.

Please note that both VMWare Fusion and Windows 7 used here are large downloads so it may take some time if you have a slower internet connection.

Step 1 – Download the virtual machine software

On your Mac download the 30 day trial of VMWare Fusion which you can get here.

Once you have downloaded it run it and install it on to your Mac.

Step 2 – Download Windows 7

Download an ISO of Windows 7 which will work for 90 days from here.

Once you have downloaded it save it to a convenient location on your Mac such as the desktop.

Step 3 – Install Windows 7 in to the virtual machine

With VMWare Fusion installed on your Mac run it.

When VMWare Fusion asks you for the installation method choose Install from disc or image and then click Continue.

Select the Windows 7 ISO from step 2 when asked and wait for Windows 7 to be installed in to the virtual machine whilst following the on-screen prompts that may occur during the Windows 7 installation although most of the installation is automated.

Step 4 – Install VMWare Tools

Once you have successfully installed Windows 7 in to the virtual machine you will be asked to install VMWare Tools. Follow the instructions that appear to do this.

Step 5 – Download and install iTunes to your Windows 7 virtual machine

Now that you have installed Windows 7 in to the virtual machine as well as VMWare Tools VMWare Fusion should now boot in to Windows 7 and it will work exactly as Windows 7 would normally work on a PC.

Download and install iTunes to your Windows 7 virtual machine by getting it from here.

Step 6 – Download the jailbreak tool to your Windows 7 virtual machine

You now need to download the Taig PC jailbreaking tool which you can get from here.

Save the download to an easy to find location on your Windows 7 virtual machine, such as the desktop and extract it to its own folder.

Step 7 – Use your Windows 7 Virtual Machine and Taig to jailbreak the device

Simply connect the iOS device to your Mac and make sure it is shown inside your Windows 7 virtual environment.

Once it is shown run the Taig jailbreak tool from step 6.

Follow the instructions that are shown within the Taig program to jailbreak the connected device.
